Heavy-duty cranes become eye-catchers
Aalterpaint was asked to renew the existing weathered anti-corrosion protection on several industrial cranes. The challenge was to make the new coatings adhere to the existing systems and also to have the bright yellow colour covered in one layer.
In line with the customer's marketing house style
Apecoat E860, a surface-tolerant two-component epoxy coating, was chosen as the primer. The good adhesion to an St3 pretreatment (according to ISO 8501-1) of the existing systems was easily demonstrated by adhesion tests on site. The easy processability due to a sufficiently long pot life and easy spray application were additional interesting advantages.
The finishing coat had to provide sufficient UV protection for the system, while the specific yellow colour was desired because it corresponds to the customer's marketing house style.
It is generally known that yellow colours in particular are more difficult to cover in a single layer. However, due to the limited time window during which the cranes would be taken out of service, a coating had to be chosen which would allow the system to be finished in one coat during the holiday period. Acrydur A5456 was used for a quick and high-quality finish. This two-pack PU is very UV resistant and contributes with its satin gloss yellow colour to the appearance of the machine park of this company.
